Antique stub-tail straight razor, dating from the early-19th century (circa 1800), featuring a wedge-shaped steel blade and pressed buffalo horn scales (handle) decorated with symbolic or Masonic
Pre-Civil war Era
Perfectus - Latin Word
When held up to a bright light source like a window, buffalo horn reveals a beautiful, warm amber-to-honey translucency with dark, smoky streaks.
*1780s razors are widely known for having almost no "monkey tail" (the curved extension at the end of the tang used for your pinky finger). The razor in the image has a short, stubby, or blunt tail tip typical of pre-1800 designs.
*The stamp on the tang reads H. Hobson Warranted. The use of "Warranted" or "Cast Steel" was heavily popularized between 1740 and 1830 to show that high-grade crucible steel was being utilized.
