My Neighbor Totoro - 6 Plate

A special collection of six Japanese ceramic and porcelain plates from the “Ghibli and Japanese Crafts” collaboration between Studio Ghibli and Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten.

This lot brings together two renowned Japanese ceramic traditions: Mino ware from Gifu Prefecture and Arita ware from Saga Prefecture.

All six plates feature characters from Studio Ghibli’s beloved film “My Neighbor Totoro”.

Mino Ware – 3 Plates

The Mino ware plates were produced in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture, in collaboration with Zohiko-gama (蔵珍窯), a kiln that handles the entire production process from forming the pottery to decoration.

Each plate is individually formed using the traditional “tatara” slab-building technique, resulting in a softly irregular surface and handcrafted appearance.

The designs are inspired by traditional iron-painting techniques and feature:

* Totoro
* Small and Medium Totoro
* Susuwatari (Soot Sprites / Makkuro Kurosuke)

Arita Ware – 3 Plates

The Arita ware plates were produced in Arita, Saga Prefecture, in collaboration with Kouraku Kiln (幸楽窯), a historic kiln established in 1865.

The designs are based on original hand-painted artwork by a traditional craftsman and are finished using sophisticated transfer techniques.

The beautiful white porcelain is decorated primarily with traditional indigo-blue tones, complemented by subtle red, yellow and green accents.

The three designs feature:

* Small and Medium Totoro
* Catbus
