Silvered brass snuff box, mythological Nereids decoration, 19th century
Decoration particularly rich and original, the lid and the rim feature a heavily worked relief decoration with four feminine figures in a mythological and marine-inspired composition.
One of the female figures is depicted riding a sea creature with a vegetalized tail, evoking a sea horse or hippocampus.
This type of representation is well attested in decorative arts and antique snuff boxes.
The box also presents numerous vegetal ornaments, incrustations, and relief motifs, giving great depth to the decoration.

Décoration particulièrement riche et originale, le couvercle et le pourtour presentent un décor en relief fortement travaillé avec quatre figures féminines dans une composition d inspiration mythologique et marine.
L'une des figures féminines est représentée chevauchant une creature marine a queue vegetalisee, évoquant un cheval marin ou Hippocampe.
Ce type de représentation est bien atteste dans les arts décoratifs et les tabatières anciennes.
La boîte présente également de nombreux ornements végétaux, rince aux et motifs en relief, donnant beaucoup de profondeur au décor.
