1941-1943 – Paillard Bolex Suisse H16 16 mm Camera
The body of this camera is in good aesthetic condition. The leatherette coating is well preserved and shows only a few signs of use, including a circular mark left by the retractable strap arm on the leather transport handle, as well as a few small scratches likely caused by the winding crank. The polished aluminum parts are in good condition, with no oxidation, only a few light marks on the top. The chrome elements show no rust traces. Overall, there are no signs of fungal contamination or humidity traces.
The upper viewfinder for focusing shows a slight haze as well as a few particles that could interfere with use. The side viewfinder is usable but also has a slight haze and some dust.
Viewfinder H16 F 27 mm / 75 mm / 15 mm: a few dust particles, cosmetic appearance clean for its age. The parallax correction mechanism works correctly.
The winding lever and the mainspring function perfectly. The shutter, both for continuous shooting and frame-by-frame, operates normally. The mechanism runs with a steady, gentle sound for its age. The frame counter advances normally and the camera operates correctly at all speeds once the spring is wound. Frame-by-frame shooting is operational. The continuous operation lock is effective.
However, I could not test the reverse crank (“Reverse”). The rotation of the lens turret is smooth and works correctly. A cap is present on one of the C-mounts.
The serial number on the lid matches that of the body.
The camera is supplied with an artisanal wooden support for easy display. A 16 mm film take-up spool is also present inside the body.
No other tests were performed; the device has not been tried with an empty film. However, a test was conducted with a film that had already been exposed, which confirmed that the film transport by the mechanism and the claw works correctly.
As with any camera of this era (1941, estimated based on its serial number), regular maintenance will likely be necessary to achieve optimal performance. Replacing the lid gasket seals will be essential.
