Two Victorian-style silver salt cellars on a pedestal base with original blue glass liners, including one matching silver salt spoon, made by Jones & Crompton in the United Kingdom from 0.925 sterling silver, with Birmingham marks and date letters U (1919) on the cellars and T (1918) on the spoon; total weight 126 g (silver 66 g), minor wear with small dents on one and light openings at the corners on the other, otherwise in good condition.
Description from the seller
Set of silver salt basins in Victorian style, nicely octagonal model standing on a pedestal foot, with the original blue glass liners.
There will be 1 silver salt spoon included; this belongs with it originally.
Both provided with all English hallmarks :
- Maker’s mark J&C = Jones & Crompton (Edward Samuel Jones & Hubert Crompton)
- Left-facing lion for English sterling silver
- Birmingham town mark
- Calendar letter u for 1919
The salt spoon has the same marks, only with the year letter t for 1918.
Body diameter 5.5 cm. / rim and foot 4.5 cm.
Width near the handles 8.4 cm.
Height at the rim 5.5 cm. / at the handles 6.5 cm.
Length of the salt spoon 5.5 cm.
Silver weight 66 grams.
Total weight 126 grams.
The silver on both basins shows some signs of use.
One has a few small dents on one side and the other has light openings/cracks at the corners, see photos..... this is not bothersome and they can of course still be used.
Otherwise they are in good condition, as is the spoon.
Will be well and carefully packed.
