Description from the seller
Photographer Yoshihiko Ueda’s large-format portrait book “AYAKO FUJI: A PORTRAIT BY YOSHIHIKO UEDA”, published in Japan by Asahi Press in 1995.
The original obi describes it as Ayako Fuji’s “first and last photo book”.
The volume is devoted to portraits of Ayako Fuji and combines both colour and black-and-white photography.
Images incorporating traditional Japanese interiors, yukata, mosquito netting and seasonal fruit create an intimate atmosphere, while Ueda’s restrained use of light and colour gives the photographs a quiet yet sensual character.
Its generous format allows the portraits and subtle tonal qualities of the photographs to be appreciated at an impressive scale.
The book measures approximately 34.5 × 27.5 cm and retains its original period obi.
This makes it an attractive example of Japanese portrait photography from the mid-1990s and a notable publication for collectors interested in Yoshihiko Ueda’s photographic work.
There is an approximately 1 cm tear and a fold at the upper edge of the dust jacket.
