Cinnabar Box, 20th Century. - Lacquer - China - S.XX

The Chinese red carved lacquer box (popularly known as cinnabar), a traditional type of Eastern handicraft: Made by applying numerous layers of red lacquer (historically pigmented with natural cinnabar) over a structural base. Interior: The bottom of the base shows a vivid blue counter-enamel on metal, a distinctive technical feature in these pieces. The lid features a hand-carved relief depicting a classical figurative scene with characters in a wooded landscape. The sides of the box are complemented by an intricate floral pattern and continuous geometric scrolls. These pieces were produced in the 20th century following the artistic tradition of the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is authentic hand-carved lacquer resin; its dark patina and finish guarantee this.
