Large Art Deco Vase with Stylized Bird Decor – Amphora (Turn-Teplitz), c. 1920–1930
An pronounced and rare decorative piece of Art Deco ceramics from the renowned factory Amphora (Turn-Teplitz, Czechoslovakia).
This imposing 30 cm tall vase displays a bold, geometrically stylized composition of a waterfowl among floral motifs. The decoration is executed in a rich relief with thickly applied enamel glazes (cloisonné technique), in which bright yellows, cobalt blue, terracotta and black beautifully contrast with the sandy, speckled matte ground. Both the neck and the foot are finished with clean, typical Art Deco band patterns.
The form language and color usage align seamlessly with the popular modernist currents of the interwar period (strongly reminiscent of the iconic designs by Charles Catteau for Boch Frères Keramis). A beautiful collector’s piece with a strong visual presence in both a classical and a modern interior.
