Description:
Beautiful and detailed antique wooden cigar box, inlaid with a solid silver relief plate.
The silver plate depicts a finely worked, romantic maritime scene of historic sailing ships (galleons) on a rough sea under a cloudy sky with moonlight.
The silver lid plate bears on the lower right four clear, official Dutch silver hallmarks:
Master mark: VK with crescent (Royal Van Kempen & Zonen, Voorschoten)
Assay mark: Walking lion with '2' (2nd fineness silver, .833)
Office mark: Minerva's head with 'II' (Rotterdam Assay Office)
Year letter: T (produced in the year 1929)
A very stylish and authentic collectible object of high-quality Dutch silversmithing from the early 20th century.
