Senoufo mask embodying animal power in African Art.
These Wanyugo masks are worn during funeral ceremonies of the Poro society.
They are believed to protect the village from evil spirits.
This one shows a wide open mouth with threatening teeth.
The eyes, large and round, are protruding; the forehead is pointed, the nose narrow.
A chameleon sits on top of the head, the ears laid back are long and thin.
The back of the mask is adorned with a rope edging.
The wood is heavy and brown.
The whole is in good condition.
