Description from the seller
Pablo Picasso – The Lunches – Douglas Cooper – Sala Gaspar / Editorial Rauter – 1962 – First Spanish edition – With original case
Important monograph dedicated to Pablo Picasso and his famous series “Les Déjeuners,” created from his reinterpretation of Édouard Manet’s “Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe.”
Published in Barcelona in 1962 by Editorial Rauter for the Sala Gaspar Collection. This is the first Spanish edition of the work originally published by Éditions Cercle d’Art, Paris.
Text by Douglas Cooper, renowned British art historian and critic, specialist in Cubism and closely associated with Pablo Picasso.
The publication extensively documents the extraordinary cycle of paintings, drawings, and studies by Picasso around the theme of “Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe,” with numerous color and black‑and‑white reproductions.
Large format edition, with attractive fabric binding decorated with Picasso motifs.
In the production credits of the edition itself are listed the prestigious Mourlot workshop for lithography, as well as Imprimerie Moderne de Lyon for the illustrations, Grafesa of Barcelona for the typography, and Bossom et Auclair of Paris for photography.
It retains its original outer case from the period, an especially interesting element and increasingly difficult to find together with the book.
