A beautiful and characterful antique wooden holy statue from the 18th century, with a total height of 28 centimeters including the original base. This refined devotional object is hand-carved from a high-quality hardwood, presumably oak or fruitwood, and has developed over the centuries a splendid, deep dark brown patina that uniquely enhances its historic appearance. The sculpture shows a standing religious figure draped in a dynamic and richly layered garment, which is very typical of stylistic influences from the Baroque period. The statue stands on a very beautifully designed, stepped Baroque pedestal decorated with stylized carving of leaf motifs. Given the compact size, this object was very likely used in the past for personal devotion in a house altar or private chapel. As is often the case with authentic wooden sculptures of this age, the object is in an honest, well-worn condition with natural signs of aging; for example, the left forearm has broken off over time and the original attribute in the hand is missing, and the item in the right hand also shows old wear. These imperfections testify to the piece's rich history and tangible age.
