Description from the seller
Pair of tall neoclassical-style candlesticks, silvered brass and textured black shaft. France. Early 20th century.
Elegant pair of tall candlesticks, with a symmetrical design and a marked neoclassical and historicist character. They feature a square base with relief decoration around the perimeter, from which a stepped circular foot rises and a turned and molded shaft develops.
The most distinctive element is the long cylindrical black shaft, decorated with a relief texture that resembles reptile skin. It is capped at both ends by molded metal elements. At the top it incorporates a wide cylindrical candle holder, decorated with cord or grooved motifs.
The combination of the silvered metal finish with the black shaft provides an attractive contrast and gives the set a notable decorative presence.
Technique: molded, turned, and assembled metal pieces, with relief decoration and a silvered finish.
Decoration: classical mouldings, cord motifs and ornamental friezes on the bases, combined with black textured shafts imitating reptile skin.
Era: Early 20th century, approx. Inspired by earlier neoclassical and historicist models.
Dimensions: 34 cm in height. Bases 9 × 9 cm.
Weight: 770 g each, 1.54 kg for the pair.
Condition: generally good, with normal signs of use and wear. Show small wear and occasional losses of the black finish on the shafts, as well as some surface marks and alterations on the metallic finish. The candle holders show signs of use. No breaks or major missing parts are observed.
The photographs are part of the description.
