The tactile laboratories

Paths through Free Space: children play with art: it is a rare pedagogical volume and didactic catalog published in 1992 by the Fatatrac publishing house. The text was curated by the Education Department of the Luigi Pecci Centre for Contemporary Art in Prato and boasts a famous introduction signed by Bruno Munari.

The book documents the historic methodological vision of the Pecci Centre in Prato, focused on bringing children closer to the languages of contemporary art through play, direct experimentation, and free exploration of space.

Institutional presence: The text, now very difficult to obtain, is preserved in the world’s most important art libraries, including the Biblioteca della Toscana and the Bibliothèque Kandinsky of the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

The tactile laboratories: The volume represents a true ode to the fifth sense. Building on the intuition of “tactilism” originally launched by Tommaso Marinetti in 1921, Munari proposes practical activities and educational laboratories designed and carried out directly together with children. The book includes basic explanations, sensory stimuli, methodological suggestions, and educational maps useful for teachers, educators, and parents.

Conditions

Both volumes are generally in good condition. In "Paths through Free Space" there is a white label on the frontispiece page. In "The Tactile Laboratories" there are some light pencil underlinings in the text. Good set for collection/consultation.
