Calcite with Sphalerite - Baia Mare, Romania

Very attractive cabinet specimen dominated by a dense layer of sharp, translucent white Calcite crystals forming a crust over a rich, lustrous black Sphalerite matrix.

The bright white calcite top layer provides a striking contrast against the dark metallic sphalerite base visible from the sides and bottom. A well-balanced piece weighing 0.9 kg from the classic, now closed mining area of Baia Mare.
