Description from the seller
Punch bowl / Punch cup in Ironstone - Mason's, circa 1813-1820
Magnificent Punch Bowl / Jatte in Ironstone "Mason's" - Chinoiserie Decoration - Regency era, c. 1813-1820**
Magnificent and imposing bowl (or large punch bowl) in fine earthenware of the Ironstone type, originating from Staffordshire, England. This historic piece dates from the very early 19th century (English Regency period, circa 1813-1820).
The basin and exterior walls are adorned with a rich orientalist decor (Chinoiserie / Imari style) depicting a large exotic bird surrounded by blooming peonies. The outlines are printed in blue underglaze by transfer, then beautifully enhanced by hand with colored enamels (pink, cobalt blue and bright orange).
On the reverse, the piece bears the rare and precious first blue-lined stamp: **"PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA WARRANTED"**. This mark corresponds exactly to the very first patent filed by **Charles James Mason in 1813**, used before the later introduction of the famous royal crown on the manufacturer’s logos.
