The Muonionalusta is an iconic, rare iron meteorite that struck northern Sweden about 1 million years ago. Discovered in 1906, it is famous for its age of more than 4.5 billion years and the stunning crystal structures (Widmanstätten pattern) that become visible when the iron is polished and etched.

Important Features: Fine octahedrite (IVA) consisting of iron, nickel, and cobalt. Note: It is one of the few meteorites that contains the mineral stishovite (a rare form of quartz).
