Rémy Martin - Centaure Limoges - b. 1980s - 70cl

The classic edition of the series: the Rémy Martin "Centaure Limoges" decanter in its striking royal blue Bernardaud porcelain finish, first released in December 1981. This colourway is the best documented of the Centaure Limoges range and is widely reported to have originally housed a genuine 50-year-old Fine Champagne Cognac — making it the most historically significant of the three finishes (gold, ivory, and blue).

The bottle is moulded in the same dramatic rearing centaur pose as the rest of the series, cast by the Bernardaud porcelain house in Limoges and finished in a deep, glossy royal blue glaze with hand-applied gold detailing to the mane, hooves, arm ring, and base lettering ("Rémy Martin – Fine Champagne Cognac – Produce of France – 70cl – 40% vol."). The metal spear is fitted as with the other editions.

Rémy Martin's Centaure Limoges decanters were produced through the early-to-mid 1980s in three known finishes — this royal blue Bernardaud edition, an ivory/white version, and an all-gold version — with the blue widely regarded by collectors as the most desirable of the three, both for its association with the original 50-year-old release and for Bernardaud's pedigree as one of France's most respected porcelain houses. A sealed example in this condition, with box and paperwork this complete, is a strong find for any serious cognac or Limoges porcelain collection.
