Description from the seller
Pair of Postmodern Travertine Column Table Bases, Italy, 1980s–1990s
Description
Pair of substantial Postmodern Italian travertine column table bases, dating from the late 20th century, circa the 1980s–1990s.
Each base is carved in natural travertine with a warm beige tone and features a fluted rectangular column, rounded moulded lower section and a broad, geometrically stepped upper capital. The architectural design is inspired by classical column forms but interpreted through the simplified and monumental aesthetic typical of Postmodern Italian design.
The natural stone displays characteristic travertine porosity, variations in colour and texture, adding to the character of the pieces.
Designed as table supports or pedestal bases, they can accommodate a large glass, marble, stone or wooden tabletop. The pair is particularly suitable for creating a substantial dining or console table.
Measurements:
Height: 72.5 cm
Width: 51 cm
Depth: 31 cm
Measurements refer to the maximum overall dimensions, including the upper capital.
Condition: Good vintage condition, with some natural surface irregularities, small imperfections and signs of age consistent with the material and period, as visible in the photographs.
Material: Travertine
Style: Postmodern
Place of origin: Italy
Period: 1980s–1990s, circa
