Description from the seller
Stephan Vanfleteren – Portrait 1989–2009 – First edition – 2009
Sought-after and monumental photobook by the internationally acclaimed Belgian photographer Stephan Vanfleteren. This copy is the first edition from 2009 and is in very good condition, with only minimal shelf wear.
Portrait 1989–2009 contains about 200 striking black-and-white portraits that Vanfleteren took over twenty years. He photographed well-known people from Belgium and the Netherlands who played a role within art, literature, politics, music, film, sport and popular culture.
Among the subjects are Hugo Claus, Eddy Wally, Jan Decleir, Arno, Tom Barman, Luc Tuymans, Eddy Merckx and many other prominent personalities. Vanfleteren's characteristic use of light and shadow captures each face with great intensity and attention to detail.
The portraits are alternately melancholic, vulnerable, confrontational and disarming. Together they form not only an overview of Vanfleteren's portrait photography, but also a visual chronicle of two decades of Belgian and Dutch cultural history.
With a text by the Belgian writer David Van Reybrouck.
Condition
First edition in very good condition! Only minimal shelf and use marks on the spine. The spine and corners are neat. The interior is clean, complete and unmarked, and the binding is sturdy.
Please inspect the detail photos carefully; they form an integral part of the condition description.
