Ottone (brass) capletto in Liberty/Art Nouveau style dating from 1850–1900, with a hand‑worked central brass relief and a dark solid wood oval frame, overall dimensions 70 x 40 cm (depth 3 cm).
Description from the seller
Splendid and fascinating antique headboard piece (bedroom wall panel), an authentic example of artistic craftsmanship in pure Liberty / Art Nouveau style dating from the late 19th to early 20th century (about 1870-1920). This type of work traditionally originated as a headboard to protect and decorate the room.
The centerpiece is the large central brass (or light bronze) plate, finely hand-worked with the repoussé technique. As visible in the photos, the piece bears on the back the evocative and authentic marks of stamping and hand hammering on the metal sheet, testifying to its entirely handmade, non-industrial craftsmanship.
Iconography: A very sweet scene of motherhood or protective embrace (a refined secular interpretation of family sweetness or of the Madonna with Child and putto).
Decorative elements: The figures are surrounded by a rich cascade of roses and floral motifs typical of the era’s floral taste, topped by a line of relief-stamped stars in a geometric pattern. Frame: Elegant and sturdy oval frame in dark solid wood that perfectly encloses the plate.
Total dimensions: 70 x 40 cm (frame included).
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. It features a beautiful patina of natural aging on the metal and on the frame. On the back you can see the original vintage protective lining (partially lifted to show the authenticity of the repoussé on the metal).
Perfect as a wall piece above the bed for elegant bedrooms, eclectic interiors, or for antiques and vintage collectibles enthusiasts.
Careful shipping and ultra-protective packaging.
