Description from the seller
Beautiful Bronze Mortar with Pestle – Authentic Renaissance Style (Historicism)
A very decorative and heavy bronze mortar including the accompanying pestle. This characteristic piece is crafted in the recognizable style of European apothecary mortars from the 16th/17th centuries.
Around it the mortar is beautifully detailed with a relief of crowned masks (mascarons) and classical scroll ornaments.
The piece has a splendid dark patina with here and there the desired authentic signs of age (verdigris), which gives the whole a well-worn and historical appearance.
This model was cast around 1900 (the period of Historicism) in a two-piece mold, as can be seen from the skilled mold seams on the inside.
Condition: In beautiful, undamaged condition with a wonderfully aged surface.
A real showpiece with a rich presence!
