Description from the seller

Antique double bronze inkwell finely decorated – 19th century

Elegant and scenographic double desk inkwell in bronze, presumably European and datable to the second half of the XIX century, characterized by a very rich decoration in neobarocco and rocaille taste.
The large shaped base presents a refined symmetric composition in relief, with volutes, floral and vegetal motifs, shells, fruits and winged fantastic figures. At the center of the composition there is a striking anthropomorphic mascaron within a rosette, an element that gives the piece a distinctive decorative character.
At the side extremities two winged fantastic figures developed and integrated into the base’s volutes, while the bottom is enriched by a rich fan motif and numerous naturalistic relief elements.
The inkwell retains the two removable cylindrical recipients, each complete with its own domed bronze lid. The edges of the lids and the rings feature delicate corrugated detailing. The recipients can be completely removed from their respective seats, as documented in the photographs.
The bronze shows a beautiful antique brown-golden patina, with darker tones in the recesses of the decoration and natural color variations on the more exposed parts.
