Grand Asafo / Frankaa draped banner - Fante People, Ghana - Figurative & Mythological Scene - 159 x 115 cm

Description:

Imposing textile of African tribal art in fabric appliqué, authentic creation of the Fante people (Ghana, West Africa).

This large-format piece illustrates the Asafo narrative art. On a black cotton ground, a lush composition of appliqué motifs in polychrome fabrics (yellow, red, blue, green) accented by hand-drawn embroidery (visible stitches on the front from the reverse) features a bestiary and figurative characters: teeth-armed fish, birds, felines, bulls/buffaloes, as well as complex human scenes (captive chained, armed figures, gathering).
