An ES-series SACD player compatible with multi-channel SACD playback.

The D/A conversion section features a newly developed Super Audio D/A converter.
This device integrates a DSD filter, a digital filter for CD playback, and a new type of multi-level D/A converter onto a single chip. Notably, the multi-level D/A converter utilizes 67 individual 1-bit D/A converters per channel, combining (summing) their outputs to produce the final signal. Furthermore, the specific combination of active converters used to achieve a given output level is randomized for each sample; this prevents sonic artifacts associated with fixed converter combinations and helps smooth out distortion.
Additionally, because this multi-level D/A converter architecture does not require ultra-high-speed operation from the individual converters, it minimizes digital noise generation and reduces the risk of interference with the analog audio circuitry.

The pickup assembly employs a twin-laser pickup system.
A high-precision digital servo circuit is also utilized.

The power supply section incorporates separate R-core transformers—known for low magnetic flux leakage and minimal vibration—for the audio circuitry and the digital/control systems, respectively, thereby suppressing digital noise interference in the audio path.

Gold-plated terminals are used for the analog outputs.

The unit is equipped with a multi-channel management function that includes setup programs for eight different speaker configurations.
Available settings include: Multi-channel direct output; 5-channel large speakers + subwoofer; 5-channel large speakers; 5-channel small speakers + subwoofer; front large speakers + small center/surround speakers + subwoofer; front large speakers + small center/surround speakers; large speakers (no center) + subwoofer; and large speakers (no center). Furthermore, to fine-tune the selected mode, you can use the remote control to adjust the balance between the front and center speakers (Cntr Balance), the front and surround speakers (Surr Balance), and the front speakers and subwoofer (SW Balance) while listening to the audio.

The unit employs the "BP Chassis," a design also used in the SCD-1.
This chassis is constructed by erecting pillars on a metal base plate and attaching the side and top panels to them; by enhancing the strength of the structural materials themselves, it achieves sufficient rigidity despite its simple design. This method also offers the advantage of creating more internal space, allowing for a spacious layout of the various circuit blocks.

The unit is equipped with off-center insulators for its feet.
In these insulators, the mounting point connecting to the chassis is offset from the center; this design causes vibrations traveling up from the bottom of the insulator to cancel each other out upon reaching the connection point, thereby reducing the transmission of vibration into the chassis.
