Description from the seller
German Double-Worm Corkscrew "Reissmann" with Locking Mechanism, Early 1900s - With Patent and Locking System
Auction listing: a fascinating piece of enology history — a German double-worm corkscrew dating from the early 1900s. This model stands out for its ingenious design and the mechanism based on the famous Reissmann patent.
Main Features:
Unique Design: Features a solid T-shaped handle and a central shaft with a primary worm for extraction. The ingenuity of the Reissmann patent lies in the sliding locking ring on the shaft (clearly visible in the photos), which allows the handle to be fixed in position for maximum leverage.
Robust Construction: Fully made of iron, with an open, narrow, square-shaped bottle-rest bell, typical of the era. The main worm is a "rapid worm" made of iron, designed for efficient cork penetration.
Materials: Iron with chrome finish.
Double-Worm Mechanism: Shows two concentric spirals on the central shaft, a rare technical detail highly sought after by collectors (see close-up photo of the mechanism).
Conditions (See Photos):
Being an authentic antique piece, it shows visible signs of age and use, which authenticate its history and vintage charm. As shown in the photographs (especially in the base and shaft images), there are widespread losses of the original chrome finish and traces of superficial oxidation on the iron. These defects are purely cosmetic and typical for an item of this age. The mechanism appears complete and functional in its basic movements. Please carefully examine all close-up images to assess the state of conservation.
This corkscrew is not only a functional tool but a true collector’s item. The combination of the Reissmann patent, the double-worm mechanism, and the locking system makes it a piece of superior interest.
Additional Details:
Authenticity: The item is sold with an authenticity certificate issued by the seller.
Gift Idea: An excellent gift idea for wine enthusiasts, history lovers, or vintage technical objects. Upon request, we can provide materials for an elegant gift packaging.
Dimensions and Weight:
Handle Length: 7.5 cm
Overall Height: 15 cm
Weight: 146 g
