Vincenzo Ferrari (1941 - 2012)
had his studies at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, where he was first a pupil and then an assistant to Gianfilippo Usellini. Since 1971 he has held at the same Academy the chair of Decoration.
In 1967 he began his own research related to conceptual art.
The exploration of the word also found value in the production of artist’s books in the same years: the first of these is Corso di deculturizzazione of 1971. Over time he produced, in addition to about ten editions, around 200 volumes in unique copies, some of which are preserved in the libraries of various museums, including Beaubourg in Paris and the Mart in Rovereto, and in national libraries such as the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense[6].
In 1972 he participated in the XXXVI Venice Biennale in the section dedicated to artist’s books, curated by Renato Barilli and Daniela Palazzoli and entitled The book as a place of research.[7]
For him, starting in 1969, friendship with Vincenzo Agnetti was fundamental, but also with other important figures such as Ugo La Pietra, Alik Cavaliere, Ugo Carrega with whom he subsequently produced publications, works, two-person installations, and exhibitions.
In 1975 he signed the Manifesto of the New Writing made with various artists including Vincenzo Accame, Magdalo Mussio, Ugo Carrega and Anna Oberto. The Manifesto is introduced by Renato Barilli’s article titled Between the signifier and the signified.[3]
In 1977 he participated in Dokumenta in Kassel with some artist’s books. In 1980 and 1986 he participated in the Venice Biennale.
