Description from the seller
Antique Black Forest Clock – 1850-1860
This beautiful and historic Black Forest clock is a unique piece of heritage that I inherited from my uncle, who came from Germany. This clock, believed to date from 1850-1860, is a true masterpiece of artisanal craftsmanship and represents the rich tradition of clockmaking from the Black Forest region.
The clock features a wooden case with hand-carved decorations and a mechanical movement that functioned up to my uncle’s death. Unfortunately, we had to temporarily dismantle the clock for transport, but I assume it will run again after restoration.
Characteristics:
Period: 1850-1860
Origin: Black Forest, Germany
Material: Wood (likely pine or linden), metal (for the mechanism)
Style: Traditional Black Forest clock with hand-carved ornaments
Mechanism: Mechanical movement with weights and pendulum
Condition: Worked until recently, needs restoration after transport
Details: Contains original parts, including the characteristic weights
History:
This clock holds special emotional significance, as it has been in our family for generations. In my uncle’s documents we found an old photo with a note confirming the dating. It is a wonderful example of the artisanal clocks made in the 19th century in the Black Forest, renowned worldwide for their quality and craftsmanship.
Ideal for collectors of antique clocks or enthusiasts of Black Forest heritage.
This clock will be sent by registered mail, or can be picked up in Groningen, Netherlands."
