Description from the seller

Large circular plate
Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795)
18th century
China
Porcelain with polychrome enamel decoration of the Famille Rose on overglaze
Diameter: 38.5 cm; Height: 4 cm
This large porcelain plate features a refined central decoration that sits squarely within the pure tradition of Chinese floral and animal motifs highly prized for export to Europe in the 18th century.
Central design: The basin is adorned with an asymmetric composition depicting a bird with azure blue and pink plumage, perched on a gnarled, winding branch. At the base of the tree bloom rich peonies, symbolizing wealth, honor, and distinction in China. They are treated in shades of mauve-pink (Famille Rose) and an iron-orange hue accentuated by fine gold scrolls. A white daisy and a small butterfly in mid-flight complete this bucolic garden scene.
The cavetto and the rim: The rim of the plate bears a decoration of four sprays of stylized flowers and foliage that follow the curvature of the piece. The upper edge of the rim (the border trim) is highlighted by a red iron-red and gold geometric frieze, characteristic of productions intended for the Western market.
Condition
Some wear from use and light nicks along the rim testify to the piece’s age, without altering the freshness of the enamel palette. 1 crack.
Provenance: Kanaka The Collection, Portugal
