The Sansui TU-X701 is a high-quality, digital AM/FM synthesizer tuner from the "Vintage Series" (introduced around 1987). This model is known in the audio world as one of Sansui's absolute "swan singers" in terms of high-end tuners, along with the almost identical TU-X711.
Among audiophiles, the device has an excellent reputation; for example, it is very highly regarded (place 15 out of 84) in the well-known 'Shootout' of the Tuner Information Center.
Key features & technology
Sound quality: The tuner excels in a very quiet background, excellent stereo separation and a beautiful, warm midrange and high range.
SLDD (Super Linear Digital Decoder): Sansui used this specific technology (with the LA3450 multiplex chip) to keep unwanted background noise and distortion outside the audio signal.
Selectable IF bandwidth: You can choose between 'Wide' and 'Narrow' bandwidth. This helps to effectively filter nearby, disturbing radio stations.
Design: The device has a sleek, black front panel with a characteristic orange LED display. It fits visually perfectly with the legendary amplifier from the same series, the Sansui AU-X701.
