GUIDO CREPAX: The father of Valentina

Born in Milan in 1933, Guido Crepax is considered one of the most important Italian comic authors and probably the best known internationally in the field of adult graphic novels. He began very young, creating his first comic story at twelve. After graduating in architecture, he chose to devote himself to drawing, first as the author of numerous album covers and then as an advertising designer.
In 1965, thanks to the magazine Linus, he returned to comics to create the character that made him known worldwide: Valentina, one of the few heroines in comics, the only one who has aged with her Creator. Meticulous and refined, like the latest cinematic versions, are his graphic novel adaptations of some classics of literature (from Emmanuelle to L’Histoire d’O, from Justine to Venus in Furs, from Dracula to Frankenstein, from Dr. Jekyll to The Turn of the Screw, from Poe to Kafka). Overall he has produced over 5,000 comic panels and his books have been published in about 200 editions in the main languages known. In 40 years of activity he has also produced hundreds of illustrations for newspapers, books, furnishings, fashion and design.
He has also worked for theater, cinema and television. As a pure artist he has produced dozens of lithographs. Numerous solo exhibitions have been dedicated to him in Italy and abroad. Inventing board games has been one of his hobbies. He left us on July 31, 2003.
