David Marshall Brutalist Ashtray – Spain, 1970s
Striking Brutalist sculptural ashtray/ bowl by David Marshall, handcrafted in Spain from sand-cast aluminium and brass.
The heavy organic, irregular form and contrasting polished silver and golden surfaces are highly characteristic of Marshall’s work. The impressed David Marshall maker’s mark is clearly visible on the front.
The large ashtray has been polished and waxed, bringing out the dramatic contrast between the aluminium and brass while preserving its handmade character. A substantial and highly tactile example of 1970s Spanish Brutalist design.
