Terrestrial table globe - 1850-1900

Magnificent antique globe from 1880 by the famous J. Lebegue publishing house in Paris.
Jules Lebegue was the son of the well-known publisher Alphince Nicholas Lebegue, who in turn had taken over the publishing house from his father, Jean Lebegue.
Some time ago the publisher also had a branch in Brussels in addition to Paris.
The Lebegues’ globes are characterized by an exceptionally detailed and very aesthetic cartouche, and by the quality of the globe and the base.
The cartographer Emile Bertaux is likely responsible for the maps, as they show striking similarities to the maps used by the Delamarche publishing house, known to have been made by Bertaux.
A characteristic feature of Lebegue globes are the cast-iron standards with claw feet and fanciful heads.
In this case the base features a distinctive and interesting variation on this theme. The lower attachment of the meridian has been replaced by a 3D-printed version of the original.
The globe is in good condition for its age and fragility. There are a few cracks and a small dent. The varnish layer is still excellent and the colors are beautiful, with a very fine patina.
In short, an exceptionally beautiful globe, a valuable addition to any collection and an eyecatcher and 'conversation piece' for any stylish space.
