Offered for auction is an attractive antique fireplace coal scuttle, made predominantly of copper with brass-coloured decorative and functional elements.
The piece features a substantial copper body, a distinctive domed lid with an elegant decorative finial, a swing handle, side fittings and three small feet. The body has a visible joined seam and traditional riveted construction, giving the item an authentic character associated with early 20th-century copperware
The surface displays a beautiful natural aged patina, with areas of oxidation, verdigris, scratches and marks consistent with its age and previous use. The interior also shows natural signs of age and use.
No maker's mark or manufacturer's stamp has been found.
