Subject Significance
Developed by Scuderia Ferrari for the 2004 Formula One season, the F2004 represented the culmination of the team’s dominant early-2000s era. Designed under the technical leadership of Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne, it refined the successful principles of its predecessors while improving aerodynamic efficiency, tyre performance, reliability, and mechanical balance.
The car was powered by Ferrari’s naturally aspirated 3.0-litre Tipo 053 V10 engine, producing approximately 900 horsepower and operating at extremely high engine speeds. Power was transmitted through a lightweight seven-speed sequential semi-automatic gearbox, while the carbon-fibre composite chassis provided exceptional strength and rigidity.
Driven by Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, the F2004 won 15 of the 18 races contested during the 2004 season. Schumacher achieved 13 victories and secured his seventh Drivers’ World Championship, while Ferrari comfortably captured the Constructors’ Championship.
The F2004 also established numerous circuit lap records, several of which remained unbeaten for many years. Its combination of speed, reliability, aerodynamic sophistication, and competitive dominance has secured its reputation as one of the greatest Formula One cars in motorsport history.
