Rare early manually operated stitching device from Gebrüder Brehmer, Leipzig-Plagwitz (Germany).
This heavy cast-iron device is a so-called Patent-Hand-Heftapparat, developed by Brehmer for hand-stitching loose papers. A historical German publication from 1886 explicitly mentions a “Hand-Heftapparat (Patent Brehmer-Plagwitz) zum Heften von losen Papieren, Rezepten, Rechnungen etc.” and notes that the device was described and illustrated in an earlier technical publication.
