Description from the seller
A Chinese bronze rectangular incense burner, late 19th/early 20th century, of architectural form, raised on four tapering feet, the sides cast with vertical fluting beneath a stepped rim and flanked by a pair of upright loop handles. The removable upper section is pierced and decorated with a continuous geometric border. The body has a small ventilation aperture to one side. The base is cast with an apocryphal four-character Xuande mark.
Originally intended for the burning of incense, the removable pierced insert allowed air to circulate around the smouldering material.
The bronze displays a rich, naturally developed patina with areas of oxidation, surface wear and minor marks consistent with age and use, contributing to its attractive antique character.
In good antique condition, with age-related wear, patination and oxidation. Please refer to the photographs for a detailed impression of the condition.
