AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Glazed ceramic elephant – richly decorated – Southeast Asia – 20th century

Very decorative ceramic elephant figure, executed in a pronounced Southeast Asian style and richly adorned with relief decorations.

The elephant is fully glazed in deep green, brown and cream tones. The animal wears a richly decorated saddle cloth with stylized floral and geometric motifs. On the back lies a raised square carrying plate, also provided with a handsome relief decoration.

Particularly beautiful are the many refined details: the graceful head ornament, large ears, tusks, decorated legs and the upward-curled trunk. In various Asian cultures the elephant is regarded as a symbol of strength, wisdom, luck and prosperity.

The design and color usage evoke traditional Thai and Southeast Asian ceramics, including decorative pieces in Sawankhalok/Sukhothai style. It is most likely a 20th-century decorative piece.

The sculpture is in good used condition with signs of age and wear appropriate to its age.

A characterful and especially decorative object that immediately draws attention thanks to its substantial form, deep glaze colors and richly worked ornamentation. Beautiful as a standalone interior piece or within a collection of Asian art and ceramics.
