Chair - Birch - Silla Savonarola

Folding chair in the style known as Savonarola, a modern reinterpretation of the historic Italian Renaissance models. Made in Italy in the 1960s–1970s, it retains the typical X-shaped cross structure, with curved slats forming both the legs and the arms, giving it solidity and a sculptural charm.

The backrest is finely carved with vegetal and floral motifs, while the armrests are enriched with suggestive carved lion heads, a symbol of strength and prestige. The chair features a smooth sliding closure, a characteristic that enhances its functionality, although it is primarily designed as a decorative object.

This model is named 'Savonarola' because, according to tradition, a similar specimen was used by Girolamo Savonarola, the famous Florentine Dominican friar of the Renaissance. Over time, the term has come to be synonymous with these cross-structured folding chairs, spread in Italy since the 15th century and a symbol of authority and prestige.
