AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

British regimental belt – “The 4th Dragoons” / “17th Hussars”

Beautiful and original British canvas regimental belt, fitted with a circular metal buckle bearing the inscription “THE 4TH DRAGOONS”.

The buckle features at its center a removable medallion decorated with a crown and royal cypher, surrounded by a laurel motif. The small central cartouche bears the inscription “17th HUASSRS”, with this particular spelling visible on the piece.

The 4th Dragoons is the historical former designation of the regiment that later became the 4th Queen's Own Hussars. The presence of the inscription “17th Hussars” on the medallion constitutes a particularly original association, the exact origin of which remains to be determined.

The belt is presented in its aged condition, with patina and wear marks on the metal parts as well as some marks on the canvas.

A relatively uncommon and interesting item for a collector of British militaria, cavalry, or regimental objects.
