Description from the seller
Historical wall mirror with a carved and water-gilded pediment – Baroque tradition, 20th century
Important wall mirror of historical character, made of carved and stuccoed wood, with water gilding, following decorative models of Baroque tradition.
The piece features an elegant vertical format, topped by a richly carved upper pediment with scrolls and symmetrical vegetal motifs, a distinctive element of mirrors inspired by late Baroque.
The frame is profusely worked, with deep moulding and protruding elements around its entire perimeter, conceived to enhance the play of light on the gilding.
The quality of the carving and the harmony of the whole recall nineteenth-century historicist productions, executed according to classical canons and intended for prestigious interiors.
It retains its antique glass, with patina, slight waviness and small imperfections typical of the passage of time, characteristic and appreciated in original period pieces.
The gilding shows natural wear and small localized losses, consistent with its age and reinforcing its authenticity.
