Description from the seller
No reserve
Up for auction, a magnificent collectible: an antique fan, finely crafted and superbly preserved within a custom-made frame.
The Fan:
This fan is a masterpiece of period craftsmanship, likely dating to the late 19th century. The blade is made in a fine lace (Brussels-type or similar), with intricate floral designs and delicate mesh patterns. The lace is embellished with gold mesh inserts that add a touch of light and luxury.
The most distinctive feature is the central printed medallion, which depicts a gallant or romantic scene in the style of 18th-century paintings, surrounded by a row of small gold metal paillettes, many of which remain present.
The ribs and guards (the outer ribs) are made from a material that imitates ivory (probably finely worked bone or high-quality celluloid, common of the era), richly pierced with geometric and floral motifs and decorated with delicate gold brushstrokes. The visible guard shows an elegant gold floral decoration. The lower rivet is adorned with a small metal ring.
The Frame:
The fan is presented open and mounted on an elegant burgundy red velvet background, which beautifully highlights the whiteness of the lace and the gold details. The frame has the classic "fan" shape and is made of wood with a rich gold leaf finish, with a patina that attests to its age. Glass protects the object without touching it. On the back there is a hanger for easy hanging.
Dimensions (Frame):
Maximum width: 57 cm
Maximum height: 37 cm
Depth: 6 cm
Condition:
The item is in excellent condition for its age. The fan appears intact, with no obvious tears in the lace or breaks in the visible ribs. The velvet background is clean. The gilded frame shows light, normal signs of age and patina, which do not detract from its beauty but rather confirm its authenticity. Please carefully review the detailed photos, which are an integral part of the description, to assess the conservation state.
Shipping:
The lot will be packed with the utmost care to ensure safe shipment.
