Description from the seller
TITLE
Dagoty à Paris – Porcelain cup and saucer with a winter landscape decor from the Empire period, circa 1800–1820
DESCRIPTION
Rare cup and its matching saucer in Paris porcelain, bearing underneath the cup the handwritten mark « Dagoty à Paris » in iron red.
The ensemble features an elegant polychrome decor of a winter landscape: snowy trees, architecture and figures in a rural setting. The cup and saucer are highlighted by a rich gilded border. The handle of the cup is also enhanced with gold.
The panoramic composition, the finesse of the landscape, and the heavy gilding are characteristic of Parisian porcelains produced under the Consulate and Empire.
The Pierre-Louis Dagoty manufactory, founded in Paris at the end of the 18th century, distinguished itself with luxurious porcelains richly painted and gilded. It notably benefited from the patronage of Empress Joséphine.
A cup and underplate in porcelain with a winter decor of the same style is kept at the Château de Malmaison, residence of the Empress.
DATING
Early 19th century, probably circa 1800–1820.
MARK
Handwritten mark « Dagoty à Paris » under the cup, accompanied by a decoration or serial number.
.
Saucer: 12 cm.
CONDITION
Good overall condition considering its age. Wear and rubbing visible on the gilding, particularly on the borders. Some soiling, small marks and signs of age under the cup’s foot.
No chips, cracks, or restored elements are visible in the photographs provided, pending direct attentive inspection. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
SHIPPING
Exceptionally careful packaging, with multiple protections adapted to the porcelain’s fragility. Tracked and insured shipping.
