Rare art book from 1884 called Ebers Gallerie, containing a collection of 20 engravings and illustrations made by famous artists of the era such as Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema. The engravings were made in the Friederich Bruckmann studio in Munich, inspired by the highly successful historical novels of the German Egyptologist and writer Georg Ebers. The book was published by the publishing house Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt in Stuttgart. The publisher commissioned the most important German painters of the time (like Hermann Kaulbach, Paul Thumann, Ferdinand Keller, and Otto Knille) to paint romantic and Orientalist scenes based on the characters from Georg Ebers’ Egyptian novels. This art book was a luxury product of its time, meant to bring the art of the great masters directly into the parlors of historical literature enthusiasts. The size is 18.2 / 12.5 cm.
