The absolute protagonista is the peacock — the most vain and magnificent bird in the animal kingdom, depicted in full glory on a Mughal palace terrace, with its tail unfurled in a cascade of golden and turquoise eye-spots that occupies almost the entire composition. It is not a tail: it is a cape, a curtain, a declaration of existence.

The scene opens on a dream courtyard: ogee arches in Indo-Islamic style adorned with gilded inlays, light marble columns, monumental vases with lush plants, coral-pink flowers dotting the dark green of tropical leaves. In the background, beyond the arches, a white temple glimpsed through the golden haze of late Indian afternoon. The outer border, with its turquoise and ivory geometric-floral motif on a moss-green background, frames the scene like a large-format Mughal miniature, recalling the painting traditions of Jaipur and Udaipur royal manuscripts.
