A large ornate Spanish silver bowl (900/000) dating to the late 19th century, 29 cm in diameter and 480 g in weight, with an openwork border of birds and floral decoration surrounding a plain central bowl, in good condition with age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Large Ornate Silver Bowl with Openwork Birds and Floral Decoration – 29 cm – 480 g
Spain assay mark, late 19th century, 900/000, and same date marker's mark.
An impressive and highly decorative silver bowl, distinguished by its exceptionally elaborate openwork design featuring raised birds amongst flowers, leaves and scrolling foliage.
The wide border is particularly striking, with an intricate lace-like composition of intertwined branches and floral motifs populated by numerous finely modelled birds. The birds are executed in relief, giving the decoration remarkable depth and creating a beautiful three-dimensional effect.
The richly worked openwork surrounds a plain polished central bowl, providing an elegant contrast and allowing the elaborate craftsmanship of the border to take centre stage.
There are some small dark spots/marks visible in the central section, consistent with age and previous use. These are shown in the photographs and, in our opinion, do not detract from the overall decorative impact or beauty of the piece.
