Presented is a particularly well-preserved theater glass from the German optician Jacob Sachs, Cologne and Berlin.
Jacob Sachs (often spelled Jakob Sachs) was a well-known German court optician who, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, produced high-quality optical instruments.
He was also appointed as a court optician! The designation “Hofoptiker” (or Hof-Optiker) was a title of prestige. It meant that Jacob Sachs was an official supplier to a princely, ducal, or royal house (often the Prussian or a regional Rhenish noble house). That title stood for the highest artisanal precision, excellent glass quality, and fine mechanics, which is why his pieces remain popular with collectors today.

From historical workshops such as that of Jacob Sachs, especially noble theater and viewing instruments have endured:
Opera glasses and theater glasses: These were usually crafted from noble materials such as mother-of-pearl, brass, aluminum, or leather.
Here the tubes and oculars were encased with bone or horn – very beautiful workmanship and without cracks!

Minimal, barely noticeable indentation on one of the lower lenses – metal.
