Mid‑century bed in hammered gold‑plated brass, attributed to Luciano Frigerio, handmade circa 1970 in Italy, with dimensions 190 x 110 cm, a 150 cm high headboard, and an orthopedic slatted base included.
Description from the seller
Exceptional as it is unique: a vintage bed of high Italian cabinetry, in hammered gold-plated brass, dating from around the 1970s. This piece, attributed to the celebrated designer Luciano Frigerio and made to measure, is a magnificent example of Italian design and art craftsmanship of that period.
Luciano Frigerio (1928–1999), master of cabinetry and art design active in Desio, is renowned for conceiving furniture as true author’s sculpture. In the 1960s and 1970s he revolutionized luxury interiors by producing unique pieces in brass, bronze, and precious woods in collaboration with the greatest masters and architects of the era.
Main Features:
Era: Around the 1970s.
Attribution: Luciano Frigerio (attributed).
Production: Made to measure (one of a kind).
Frame Material: Hammered gold-plated brass.
Bed base: Orthopedic slatted bed included.
Detailed Description:
Bed frame in Brass: The bed is built entirely with a solid hammered gold-plated brass frame. The handcraft is evident in the imperfections and texture of the surface, giving each element a unique artisanal character. The four square-section posts are topped with geometric faceted spherical decorative knobs, gem-cut-like, a distinctive Frigerio detail.
Headboard: The elaborated headboard is the design’s centerpiece. It features an elegant motif of interconnected circles and curved organic shapes in hammered brass. Small decorative spherical elements are placed at the intersections of the curved forms, adding detail and refinement.
Footboard: The footboard presents a more linear form, with horizontal crosspieces in hammered gold-plated brass, maintaining the stylistic coherence with the rest of the bed.
Assembly: The bed is designed to be dismantled to facilitate transport and installation.
Orthopedic Slatted Base (190 x 110 x 28 cm):
Base Frame: Solid frame in pre-painted or brushed metal (dark) with reinforcement crosspieces.
Slats: Light-colored wooden slats (likely beech or pine) in excellent preserved condition.
Labeling: The base frame bears an identifying label with black text on a white background reading "ORTHOPEDIC SLATTED BASE".
Dimensions: The base measures 190 cm in length, 110 cm in width, and 28 cm in height.
Conditions:
Brass Frame: In excellent vintage condition. The brass shows a natural and fascinating patina of time, a desirable feature that attests to its authenticity and historical value. Those who prefer a more polished look can easily clean and buff it. There are no dents or evident structural damage.
Slatted Base: In good structural condition. The metal frame is intact and free of significant rust. The wooden slats are all present, sturdy, and ready for immediate use, though they may show signs of aging.
Note on Authenticity and Condition:
This bed is an authentic piece from the 1970s, made with high-quality materials and techniques. The brass patina is a sign of its history and should not be considered a defect. Overall condition is excellent for a piece of its age.
NOTE: It is, of course, reiterated that signs of age may be present, which do not affect the beauty or functionality of the item up for auction.
Shipping: In-person pickup in Italy (Puglia) is recommended due to the size and weight of the item. Everything will be carefully packed."} }```json```Oops.
