Description
A remarkably cohesive lot of 8 vintage Dutch HIVA wall tiles, sourced from unused old stock.
The lot consists of four different blue-and-white decors, each present twice, allowing two matching sets of four to be assembled. The motifs depict various Old Dutch crafts and figurative scenes.
The tiles are hand-painted. This is clearly visible when two tiles of the same decor are viewed side by side: brushwork, line work, color intensity, and small details differ per tile. Each tile is therefore individually executed.
The decoration is applied in varying shades of cobalt blue on a white glazed background. Local fine crazing in the glaze is visible.
The tiles come from old unused stock (new old stock) and have never been set into a wall. The backs are therefore largely clean. Within the same original stock, there is also an old HIVA label with the characteristic HIVA logo and telephone number 040-111438.
