Beautiful pair of Czech Art Deco bedside lamps, dating presumably from the 1930s-1940s.
Each lamp is topped by a remarkable spherical opaline cream glass globe, ribbed with fine dark lines. The globes, in very good condition, still bear the mark “Czechslovakia.”
The glass exhibits a very strong green fluorescence under 365 nm ultraviolet light, characteristic of uranium glass. This feature is also supported by a Geiger counter reading of about 135 CPM at the surface of the globe, visible in the photographs.
The mounts are metal with a gilded finish, the bases made of zamak adorned with decorative molded elements. They retain a pretty antique patina with a few scratches, oxidation traces and signs of use consistent with their age.
